Ok, the editing on this ones not perfect, but here it is.
Once in a small country there lived a King named Edgar. One quiet day the king decided he would throw a party and invite all the most respected people in the country. After writing out invitations the king entrusted them to Sam, a young messenger, who was to deliver them to the appropriate people. Sam had three letter’s to deliver the first one was to the King’s sister a Queen Anne.
As Sam approached Queens Anne’s castle, a guard came out to greet him.
“Good day, Sir, said Sam. King Edgar is having a party, and I’m to deliver this letter to the Queen,” replied the Sam.
“Very well, come with me,” said the guard.
So the two walked to the castle and the guard announced Sam to the Queen.
“Well, said the Queen, what does my royal brother want know? Perhaps he wants my land? Or maybe he wants my people? Or maybe this time he’s going try to talk me into giving him my throne. Well, that’s not going to happen when mom and dad died, they divided the country between us. At that’s the way it’s going to stay.”
“Your Majesty,” said Sam. “Your royal brother doesn’t wish to take anything from you, he never has and he never will try to still your kingdom.”
“Then why has he sent? Come tell me so I can throw you out, and get back to more important things.”
“Your brother, King Edgar is having a party and he wishes for you to attend. The party will be held on the twenty-first of September at Six o’ clock. You are welcome to bring your family. If it pleases you, I will return within the week to obtain your reply.”
“I party? He sent you here to tell me that he’s having a party?”
“Yes, Your majesty. Will you be attending?”
“ I don’t know, this could be some kind of trick to get my land….I give you my answer when you return.”
With that, Sam left to deliver the next letter, which was to Adam, the Mayor of Shiloh, a small town not far from Queen Anne’s castle. As Sam approached Shiloh he saw many farmers in their fields tending to their crops. Many people greeted him on his way to the Mayor’s house. Once he was at the Mayor’s House he knocked on the door, using the rather larger door knocker. In what seemed like an instant someone opened the door. It was Will, the butler. Will escorted Sam inside to a waiting room, and then he went to get the Mayor. It did not take Will long to get the Mayor and soon Sam was delivering his message.
“Ah, Sam, what is the good King up to these days?” asked the Mayor.
“Well, Sir, he is having a party and I have been sent to invite you. It will be held on September Twenty-first at six o’clock; you are welcome to bring your family. I will return within a week for your response.”
“I’ll have to check my agenda, but I’ll let you know in a week.”
The next stop on Sam’s list was Governor Felix’s house, who was the Governor of Dixie.
As Sam approached the town he saw Governor’s Felix’s house. He ran up to it quickly knowing that this was his last message to deliver. Once at the door he knocked twice and a lady in a pretty blue dress answered the door.
“How may I help you?” Asked the lady.
“I have message for Governor Felix, ma’am.” Said Sam, quite out of breath.
“Well, then, right this way.”
The lady led Sam into a large room where the Governor sat quietly, his head in a book.
“Sir, there is a young man here with a message for you.” Said the lady.
“Oh,” said the Governor looking up from his book. “And what is your message young man?”
“The King is having a party and I have been sent to request your presence. It will be held on September Twenty-first at six o’clock. You are welcome to bring your family. I will return within a week for your answer.
“Hmm. I’ll have to think about it. I just go this new book and it’s really good.”
“Well, sir, I’ll see you in a week regardless.”
Time past by quickly for King Edgar as he was busy preparing for the Big Day. Soon the day came for Sam to go and call the guests to the party. King Edgar provided a carriage for each guest and their family. And with that he sent Sam on his way.
“Queen Anne, I have come to tell you that the party the King is throwing is ready, and he wishes for you to come immediately.
“Well now. Who does he think he is bossing me around like that? After all I ‘m older than him. Tell my brother I will not be attending his party; I just bought a horse and I think I will go on a trip.”
“But…”
“That’s final.”
“Bagging your pardon, but can’t you going riding any time? This is the first party that the king has thrown in years and he was hoping that his sister would be there to share it with him.”
“I have made my decision!”
So Sam left wondering what he was going to tell the King, but his thoughts didn’t linger there long, for within a few minutes he was at Mayor Adam’s house. Sam stepped down from the carriage and approached the huge house. Once inside he was shown a sit and told to wait for the Mayor. About an hour later the Mayor came out.
“Sam, it’s great to see you!” Said the Mayor.
“Mayor Adam, I have come to tell you that the King’s party is ready; he has sent a carriage for you, and we can leave at once.”
”Oh, I’m afraid I won’t be going I ‘m building a new house and I must see that everything is done just right. Tell the King I’m very sorry.”
”Very well.”
On the way to Sam’s last stop, his thoughts dwelt on the king. King Edgar had been looking forward to this party but it seemed everyone had made some kind of excuse. Soon Sam arrived at his finial stop, the Governor’s house.
“Governor Felix, I have come to tell you that the party the King is having is ready, and I’m here to take you to it.
“That’s today?” Said the Governor as he leafed through a planner.
“Yes, Sir.’
“Oh, I’m terribly sorry but, I will not be able to come, I still have quite a few books to read, and I have to finish by the end of this month.”
“But, Sir the party will only be a few hour long.”
“Sorry, I just can’t come.” Said the Governor as he escorted Sam out.
“Now what am I going to do?” Thought Sam. “I guess I may as while return home and tell the King that no one is coming to his party.”
As Sam walked toward home he wandered how he would break the news to the king. Sam knew that by the time he reached the castle the King would have everything ready to go. Soon Sam was standing before the King breaking the news that no one was going to come.
“What! Everyone that I invited has turned me down.”
”Yes, Sire. They all said that they had something else to do.”
”What could be more important than spending an afternoon with me?
While your sister, Queen Anne said that she was going to go on a trip with her new horse. The Mayor said that he had to oversee the building of his new house and the Governor was to busy reading.”
At the news the King decided to send out more servants to tell those who were invited that the party was ready. But those invited still paid no attention; instead they and their servants seized the servants of the King and killed them.
At this news the King became enraged and sent out soldiers to arrest those who had murdered his servants. Then the King told Sam…
”Sam…”
“Yes, Sire?”
”Go out into the streets and the alleys and gather all whom you find there, bring the young and the old, the poor and the rich, the crippled and the lame, bring anyone you can find. For those who were invited have been found unworthy.”
”But, Sire, there all commoners.”
“We’ll have the royal seamstress give them all a white robe, than they will be sufficient enough to be with me.”
So Sam hurried off to tell the royal seamstress that he was going to need white robes for all their guests. Then he went out in the streets and the alleys and gathered all whom he found there.
“Sire, I have done as you requested.”
“Is the banquet hall filled?”
“Yes, sir, it’s packed full of people. Just like you requested.”
“Excellent. Now Sam take the white robes and give each guest one.”
“Yes, sire it will be done.”
So Sam heard to the Banquet Hall…
“Excuse, shouted Sam over hundreds of excited voice, if you’ll form a line I can give you your robe for the party and then you may enter the Banquet Hall, at meet the King.”
For the next few minutes there was some pushing and shoving until each man, woman and child found a spot within the line.
“Here mama you must put this on before you can see the king.”
Okay, said the lady as she slipped the robe over her head.”
Everyone gratefully accepted the robes putting it on immediately, but as the line was dwindling Sam noticed a man that seemed to be in his early twenties he was not even aware that everyone had gone inside and that he was the only one left.
“Sir? Sir?” “Sir, everyone has already gone in.”
“I’m sorry. Am I supposed to go in now?”
”Yes but first you must put this robe on.”
”What for? I like the clothes I have on.”
”Sir the king said that everyone that enters must be wearing a white robe.”
“I’ll do as a please,” said the man as he entered the castle.
Later on the King was going about greeting his guest and thanking them for coming at such a short notice. It was then that the king spotted this man, who had not accepted the white robe.
“Sam. Did you give that gentleman over there a robe,” said the king motioning toward the young man that stood alone.
“I tried Sire but, he refused to take it he.”
At this the king became outraged and he called his guards and told them to bring this man to him at once.
“Sir”, said the King. Why won’t you wear the garment that I’ve provided for you?”
”Well you see I’m happy with the clothes I have and besides white’s really not my color.”
”So you refuse to wear it?”
”Yes.”
“Then I’m afraid I can’t allow you to stay.”
”What!”
”Guards take this man and throw him outside; he is not worthy to be near me! I made a way for him to come to me but he refused to accept it.”
At the command the guards took the unworthy man and threw him out into the cold, dark night. The King’s Party turned out to be one of the greatest in history, parents told their children, and grandparents told their grandchildren of the time when the King threw a huge party and welcomed everyone.
